NYBFW F/W ‘25 UPCOMING TRENDS
Aaaaaand we’re back with just a few more trends from the October New York Bridal Fashion Week! Unfortunately we couldn’t quite swing another NY trip this year to be there in person this market but don’t fret, we still saw all the new collections from the comfort of our beautiful Brisbane studio and we definitely still have plenty to share.
After all of my very subtle hints about the new Vivienne Westwood collection back in April, I can finally start screaming about just how gooood it is! Plus some newness from our faves at the Law and Danielle Frankel as well as our local loves at Elly Sofocli. Then mostly because I need someone to talk about it with, I’m going to sprinkle in some Wiederhoeft because OMG, and I don’t have many more words than just oh. my. god.
Minimal design, maximum impact
My Australian brides just love a classic look, no shame in that! 90% of the time it’s all about achieving that timeless feel. So let’s keep it classic, with a pinch of fun like an unexpected fabric!
I love the velvet options that Elly Sofocli has introduced, the gown Anika, and the mini Beni, are beautifully timeless with that luxe velvet fabric and the option of that strap creating a completely different neckline depending on your preference. The silhouettes are classic Elly to me - beautiful, flattering draping throughout, a bulletproof corset and a touch of fun in the bodice. You truly can’t go wrong!
Speaking of fun fabric, have you heard taffeta is back? We’ve already got a few taffeta numbers in the studio but Danielle Frankel has just released their version in the stunning Drew. Taffeta is the perfect fabric for those warmer weddings, light and airy but still bringing the drama. Plus who can get past that super satisfying swishy noise as you move around in your gown?
Texture
Leading into more fun fabrics, let’s finally discuss the newest Vivienne Westwood collection! I’m a terrible secret keeper but I’ve been trying my best to keep quiet since APRIL. Not only are the designs phenomenal (as per usual) but the fabrics are such a fun update! My personal fave is Victoria - another striking ball gown inspired by the iconic Carrie Bradshaw wedding gown from the 2007/08 collection. You can wear her as she is with the high / low hem or you can add the tulle petticoat for extra pizzazz.
Otherwise if you’re in the market for a tulle ball gown then please allow me to introduce you to Valorie from Elly Sofocli. Super similar in the bodice to resident Bloom fave Amelia from her Fall 2024 collection but updated with that magnificent tulle skirt option. Or if you’re more of a minimal gal and would prefer just a hint of tulle, then consider adding the Kayla tulle crop to any of your Elly looks - if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a tea length tulip skirt so I would personally pair Kayla with the Lucille silk midi but there’s plenty more options in the collection to work with!
If you really want to lean into some texture though, you can’t go past embellishments. Not usually a staple go-to in the Bloom studio, but we’ve been convinced by the Elly Sofocli Mika - she’s got sequins, pearls and feathers. Maximalist vibes for sure!
But like I said earlier, we must discuss Wiederhoeft. His embellished pieces are some of my favourites I’ve ever seen, coupled with that unreal corsetry, it’s a bit of a dream. Everything about his designs are so flattering - no matter your shape! I desperately want to put every single one on my body so I think I can foresee a little visit to the NY Wiederhoeft studio in Bloom’s not too distant future…
Corsets
Duh. I think we all know corsetry and bridal are in a very committed, very long term relationship at this point. You just need to pick how much boning you’re after! Gone are the days of a soft slip gown, every designer we spoke to during this market is doing some kind of corsetry because it’s what the brides keep asking for!
The angels at the Law have introduced their version of corsetry with the Gwyneth corset and matching skirt as well as the gorg Suki gown. Loving their long lines, especially when coupled with the Emory pick up skirt - a fun twist on the usual side split seen in a ballgown!
The queens of corsetry, aka Vivienne Westwood, have always delivered the structured goods and this collection is no exception. The team just knows what they’re doing! We’re seeing all the corseted ball gowns options in this collection but don’t forget about Mabel! She’s still out here showing us what a beautiful slim-line gown can be.
If Viv is the queen of corsets then Elly must be somewhere in that royal family as well. Leaning in to a longer corset style, I love seeing our bride’s shock when they try an Elly Sofocli gown on for the first time. A real “I told you soooooo” kind of moment for me! I’m super excited to see the Aliet gown arrive in our studio because I know that corsetry is going to be legit and the split is giving just the perfect touch of sauciness.
Hemlines
I’m sure no one wants to hear me bang on about the joy of column gowns anymore, but I love them and I won’t stop singing their praises. Thankfully, I think I’m starting to convince a few people to join me!
My fave new column arrival has been the Elly Sofocli Ellis - another classic look in that stunning modern length. But if you need something extra, she does look beyond gorg with the Adriana overskirt!
Otherwise if you’re keen to keep it traditional with a floor length gown but be able to switch up your look for the party then I can’t help but reverse you back to the Varca Saundra from their April 2025 collection paired with their lace hip cage. Not only will it make the Saundra skirt more grand but you also have the option to tuck your skirt up into the hip cage to make sure you have plenty of room for reception activities!
And who could go past a mini - an always sought after reception vibe! And do we have some fabulous options coming for you… VW have had the very grand Nova Bagatelle in their collection for a while but now she’s mini! We love her and are happy to report, the mini Bagatelle will be available in the classic double duchesse as well as a faille and a moire so no matter your vibe, the mini Bagatelle can absolutely fit it!
Speaking of mini’s though - who has seen the new DF options? The Rachel is on her way in PINK and should be arriving so so soon! But we also couldn’t resist Birdie either - she’s a mini version of Alex Cooper’s stunning DF ceremony gown inspired by another Alicia favourite, Nina.
So 2025/6 brides, I hope you’re excited for what’s to come! We love seeing all the newness headed our way but we love talking about it with you guys even more. As always, send us any and all questions you may have about upcoming collections and arrival dates but while we’re waiting, please don’t fret… I’ve got some sneaky news about a few trunk shows headed our way!
Up first, we’ve got Elly Sofocli! We’ve already been screaming it about in the studio and on instagram for a few weeks now but if you’re keen to try on any of the new Elly pieces then please head our way from 27 November to 4 December. We do still have a few appointments left so snatch them up quickly.
Early next year we’re going to be busy! While we have our permanent edit (large edit!) of the Vivienne Westwood 2025 Collection, we’ll be graced with a trunk show in February 2025 showcasing the whole collection- with dates in Brisbane and Sydney. Register your interest here- I have a feeling appointments won’t last long and if you’re on the list you’ll get first access.
And we would never, ever forget about the gorgeous Danielle Frankel Collection. Our 2025 edit has already begun to arrive and we expect the balance before Christmas, but at the end Feb/early March for one weekend only we’ll get an extended collection for a Trunk Show at our Brisbane studio.
Tell me any faves we’re loving so far and feel free to hit me up if you want to talk more about Wiederhoeft… I’m beyond down and I’ve snuck in my personal favourites below ready for discussion
